The gum should be chewed once and then held against the cheek for about 10 minutes to soften. It then releases nicotine, diffused through the oral mucosa before reaching the bloodstream.
The gum should then be chewed slowly (about 20 times in 20 minutes) for a maximum of 20-30 minutes with breaks during which it should not be chewed at all.
The gum must be kept in the mouth for about 30 minutes. Beyond this time, it no longer delivers nicotine.
 The right dosage
For weakly or moderately dependent smokers (Fagerström test score of 3 to 6), opt for Nicorette® 2 mg gummies, without exceeding 30 gummies per day.
For heavily or very heavily dependent smokers (Fagerström test score of 7 to 10 or smoking more than 20 cigarettes per day), opt for Nicorette® 4 mg gummies, without exceeding 15 gummies per day.
You can determine your degree of dependence with your doctor or pharmacist, or by using the Fagerström test.
 Stop program
In the context of an immediate shutdown:
Take 1 gum each time the urge to smoke is felt. Gums should be used in sufficient numbers, on average 8 to 12 per day. This first phase lasts an average of 3 months.
Then gradually reduce the number of gums chewed daily. Stop treatment when consumption is reduced to 1 to 2 gummies per day.
It is recommended not to use Nicorette® chewing gum beyond 12 months.
As part of a gradual cessation (reduction towards complete cessation):
Replace the cigarettes you can most easily do without with Nicorette® gum first. The reduction must take place within 6 weeks after the start of treatment, and continue for the following 6 months.
If beyond 9 months, the attempt to completely stop smoking has failed, it is recommended to seek advice from a health professional.
