Suitable from birth, Picolite is a food for special medical purposes. It is used during episodes of diarrhea and vomiting, symptoms often found in the clinical picture of gastroenteritis, which, in babies and young children, can quickly lead to dehydration and mineral loss. Like all oral rehydration solutions (ORS), Picolite comes in powder form to be dissolved in water and then administered orally. The aim is to compensate for the loss of water and electrolytes (mineral salts) due to diarrhea and/or vomiting. To ensure this action, Picolite relies on its formula combining sucrose and minerals, the proportions of which are calculated to allow the digestive tract to rest. The rehydration solution is perfectly absorbed by the intestinal wall, which helps reduce the amount of water released and slows down bowel movements. In the vast majority of cases, an improvement is observed after 24 to 48 hours of taking the ORS.

Dissolve the contents of one sachet in a clean 200ml bottle of low-mineral water labeled "suitable for preparing infant food".
Shake before use.
Do not add sugar or salt. Administer orally to the child, strictly adhering to the quantities recommended by the medical professional.
The prepared solution can be kept in the refrigerator for a maximum of 24 hours.
Store the carton at room temperature and away from moisture. Use as soon as diarrhea and/or vomiting occurs. Give the child moderate amounts of Picolite as often as desired.
The total amount to be given is determined by the doctor based on the child's age, weight, and severity of dehydration.
Mild to moderate dehydration (weight loss less than 10%): offer a maximum of 140 to 200 ml/kg/24 h of Picolite distributed as follows - for the first 4 hours, give between 10 and 20 ml/kg/hour in regular and fractionated doses.
Feeding should be suspended for these 4 hours, except for breastfeeding, which should continue as much as possible while alternating with Picolite. - For the following 20 hours, offer the child 5 to 6 ml/kg/hour regularly.
Gradually resume normal eating after 4 hours of exclusive oral rehydration.
Vomiting: offer Picolite regularly with a teaspoon (1 every 1 to 2 minutes).
In all cases, consult your doctor if your infant or child develops diarrhea or vomiting. Only a doctor can adjust their nutritional intake to meet their specific needs.
